If you only learn one smoothie, make it this one. Frozen strawberries make it thick and frosty without ice, the banana adds natural sweetness and body, and Greek yogurt turns it into something that actually keeps you full until lunch.

Ingredients

1 serving

You’ll need: Blender

Method

  1. Add the milk and yogurt to the blender first: liquids on the bottom help the blades catch.

  2. Add the banana, strawberries and honey (if using).

  3. Blend on low for 10 seconds, then on high for 30-45 seconds until completely smooth.

  4. Taste and adjust: more milk to thin, a few more frozen berries to thicken.

Tips

  • Using fresh strawberries? Add ½ cup of ice so it isn’t thin.

  • Ripe, spotty bananas are sweeter: you probably won’t need the honey.

  • Strawberry banana oat: Blend in ¼ cup rolled oats for a breakfast that lasts.

Nutrition at a glance

One serving has about 335 calories, 20 g protein, 6 g fiber and 40 g sugar, including any optional sweetener. That makes it a reasonable stand-alone breakfast. Values are estimates from USDA data for the exact amounts listed; swapping milks or yogurts changes them: try our smoothie calorie calculator to check your version.

Make it ahead

Pack the solid ingredients (fruit, greens, seeds, oats) into a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. In the morning, tip the bag into the blender, add the liquid and yogurt, and blend. A blended smoothie keeps in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours; shake before drinking. More on smoothie freezer packs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a strawberry banana smoothie without yogurt?

Yes. Use 1 cup of milk and add a frozen banana instead of fresh so it stays thick.

Fresh or frozen strawberries?

Frozen give a thicker, colder smoothie. With fresh berries, add ice.
